- A Tire Building Code: In Earthship Volume I, we presented a method of building living modules from discarded automobile tires rammed with earth. Over the thirty years of research & development, we have come to the determination that this method far exceeds any other known building technique with regard to thermal, structural, environmental and availability aspects.
- Earthship Engineering Report: Evaluation of the seismic performance of alternative construction materials in New Mexico. Prepared for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Also in the Engineer's Report is a portion of the engineering evaluation of the Dennis Weaver Earthship, 10,000 square feet near Ridgeway, Colorado.

Earthship Biotecture worked with Long Way Home in November of 2011 to build Maria and her family a home.
The formula to create a sustainable building for a family is still evolving like the home itself. The 3-U Survival Pod Earthship can currently be built in any under developed (or developed) country. It takes about $60,000 to build. It is about $25,000 in materials, $20,000 in modest crew labor and $15,000 for transportation costs etc.
Put together $60,000, we can build a 3-U S-Pod. We have people (students) who are looking to work for us in exchange for learning. The money that is raised with the tuitions is put directly back into the house and labor costs which allows us to be able to build these homes. These are ground-up, start-to-finish builds that allow people to volunteer and see what goes into the building process.
As temperatures begin to dip below freezing in Taos, New Mexico, and snow is moving in, we begin to suit up and take the necessary steps to ensure that our living conditions are as efficient as they promise. Although our Global models prove their efficiency in terms of functionality and temperature stabilization, some of our older buildings may need some small tune-ups to keep warm this winter. Here are a few examples that may help for your home too:
Propane levels need to be monitored especially in the winter months as it is used in heating water and cooking in some homes. You can check the gauge on the tank to see the percentage of gas remaining. It is good to keep a back-up tank available.
Containment, Treatment & Distribution
The concept used for containment, treatment and distribution of sewage-water is based on and draws information from the wetlands concept which has long been used in exterior applications for thousands of years by humans and nature.
The Earthship sewage system differs from the wetlands approach in that it primarily treats the gray water inside the building and the sewage from the toilet outside of the building, both in smaller areas. Greywater is the used water after all receptacles except the toilet.
All household sewage is used & reused in the interior and exterior planters, called botanical cells.

the Primary Building Block: Provides the major structure and performance of the earthship. These building blocks are arranged to form the main load-bearing walls of the building. This building block is an automobile tire rammed with packed earth. Another way to describe it is rammed earth encased in steel belted rubber.
Brief overview from the field about battering tires in a wall made of rammed earth encased in recycled steel belted rubber, aka: 'tire walls.'
The newest video in our How To series, this video outline how to layout an Earthship.
This video is about Operation 1: Tire work. The beginning part of the Earthship Global Volume: How to Build Your Own. A new 7 part series volume showing step-by-step how to build the Global Model Earthship.
