Do you adapt a design to suit the location or suburb or is it purely for new open parcels of stand alone land?

We have been doing this for over 40 years and have experienced most every situation when the goal is providing shelter that is absolutely sustainable. We have learned a lot from the world, from nature and from humanity and its methods of business. Therefore we have created standard designs over the decades and now offer the Global Model Earthship. This model is a standard design, all figured out and is the result of over 40 years of research and development. This model will work in any climate on the planet. That is something we must offer, as a business and as part of our research.

Michael Reynolds to [Client] re: starting a project

i suggest the most basic economical thing we can do.

this is smart for funding reasons for the first project, but also it is smart because the people in the area around this site have need to learn how to build something very economical - this project could provide that knowledge.

i would be glad to make a more expensive model but this simple survival model seems most appropriate for this situation. it is very easy and quick to build

More on the Earthship Biotecture Intern Program

by Michael Reynolds...

The EB intern program is aimed at both sharing what we have learned in forty years in the trenches of the green movement and looking for possible recruits to help us.  We are in effect building an earth army.  It is working.  No revolution has ever been beautifully organized.  They are all “down and dirty”, “shoot from the hip” kind of operations.  In fact no government has ever been beautifully organized even though they try to provide the image that they are.  Well, we at EB are not even trying to provide the image of immaculate organization or management.  We are and have been a “down and dirty”, “shoot from the hip” movement.  Given this true confession...

Green Building with Earthen Homes, Pt.4: Earthships

from blog.builddirect.com/greenbuilding By

The earthship was born right here in Taos, New Mexico. Michael Reynolds, the developer, trained as an architect, but he wasn’t satisfied with the traditional architecture he was exposed to in the industry. He was interested in recycling, and he also wanted to build without leveling forests. After tinkering with cans and bottles, he turned to car tires and dirt. With systems to create energy, catch water, treat sewage and grow food, the earthship was christened.
